Cool Weather Grass

The grasses on this page are at their prime during the cooler months and bloom before the warmer summer months arrive. Therefore, they should be planted in the spring or early summer months.

Calamagrotis Feather Reed Grass: 2-3'.  Sun/Light Shade.  White-edged erect leaves in compact clumps, with pink plumes in early summer.  Zones 5-9.

Zones 4-8.   Variegated form of Karl Forester, the deep green leaves have a wide, shite stripe down the center.  Upright, clumping habit and excellent for screening. Wheat-like seed heads last all season.  5'.

Korean Calamagrotis Feather Reed Grass
Zones 4-9.  4'.  Warm season grass that blooms later in the summer.  Purplish red, fluffy plumes turn green/tan.  Shade tolerant.


FESTUCA

Blue Whiskers
Zones 4-8.  Taller and more vigorous than 'Elijah Blue', this grass has bright, silvery blue foliage color.  Forms fully rounded, robust clump.  10-12".
